Toxicity
System of a Down are basically the most “out there” band currently gracing God’s green Earth. With the ability to go from songs that are just ridiculous to pure chaos in the blink of an eye, it’s this creativity that is System of a Down. It’s not just the fact that they are the most original band in the current “Nu-metal” era, it’s the way that they write songs that are not simply based around one riff or one vocal hook. They are a band that write actual songs, as oppose to the many bands out there who get their songs handed to them. Crazy guitar solo’s, intro’s, outro’s, System of a Down are a very involved band. There’s always a million things going on at once. “Toxicity”, like the debut, which was self titled, lives up to the expectations I had after originally listening to them.
If you missed System of a Down’s first album do not let ‘Toxicity” pass you by. If you liked the Armenian psycho’s the first time around then, my god, you are going to love this. Three years after the debut record took the world by storm, this set of tracks are so powerful and consistent it’s amazing. There is not one moment that doesn’t peak on this album, every single track is built towards making ‘Toxicity” possibly the best metal album ever. If you want an idea of what to expect from ‘Toxicity”, or from the band in general, look no further than first single “Chop Suey!”. From simple acoustic strum, through hardcore vocals, to the ultimate melody, the band have a track that completely sums themselves up. This can also be seen in their song entitled “ATWA” (my personal favorite) and the hardcore anthem “Needles”. Mental, crushing, and amazing all in equal doses, it can only be described as perfect.
The band’s greatness lies in their abilities to together and when unified, they create the craziness that is System of a Down. Vocalist Serj and guitarist Daron provide the creative element with the majority or lyrics coming from either...
