Geek Think
In high school, certain people are expected to live by certain rules. A jock is typically an athlete who is popular and hangs with the cheerleaders. Girls have a standard that they should have a “pink think” mindset (Lunsford, 246). Usually a class clown is popular due to his in-class antics toward the teacher. In those days, I was one of the smarter ones. I stayed after class to attain more knowledge. I was one of the best members on the chess team. I analyzed everything that came my way. I was a geek.
There were certain laws that I followed that classified me as a geek. I always had this need to prove myself to someone when I felt I was right. Living by the rule that “robotities are better than realities” (Geek Laws, 1) also classified me as a geek. I enjoyed video games and was very fond of computers. I loved math and enjoyed teaching it to others. One thing I was embarrassed about is my clumsiness. I tripped and fell over anything in my walking path, and often I hurt someone in the process. These are descriptions of a geek. In society, a geek is a person who has an increased knowledge base but is not typically accepted in society due to this excessive knowledge.
Though I was perceived as an over-achiever by my peers and my family, I was proud. No one else had the intelligence that I had. I understood people better than anyone else. I could calculate a difficult math problem in my head. I was unique in every since of the word. This was conveyed not only in the classroom but outside as well. I was an afterschool tutor to many of my peers and friends. I received bonus points for doing extra-credit projects. Being a geek didn’t seem so bad.
Even with my "geekiness", I attempted to live my life defying the odds of this geek perception. I was an award winning athlete receiving high honors in baseball and football. I was an enthusiastic member of...
