A former chemistry instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) founded the Napco Corporation in Indianapolis to make glue from vegetables. In 1919, Professor Frank Shields of MIT created an invention which would give you a quick clean shave without less the irritation of using a mug shaving soap. His invention was, pressurized shaving cream in a can, which later became to be known as Barbasol. The tubes were filled, clipped, and packaged by hand and at the most, only thirty to forty gross made up an entire day's work. It wasn't shortly after that Barbasol outgrew its Napco Corporation. By December of 1920, the Barbasol Company was created. Nearly 42 years later the company was bought by Pfizer and then switched hands in 2001 by Perio Inc.
The Barbasol Co. run process cost system, because they are a company that processes their product in large amounts. Their products move continuously from one station to the next until it is completed. The reason Barbasol Co. uses process cost system is because the manufacturing costs incurred is therefore sent to the proper stations or departments within the factory process rather than to specific products. They have many work areas in the shop, where they prepare, test, and package the products to be ready to ship to different locations around the U.S. Barbasol uses a combination of both skilled labors to make sure that there shaving cream is the right consistency and will perform to its name. They use machines to package and label each of its products, and then they have people inspect each individual can of shaving cream to make sure that there are no leakages in the cans.
