On April 12th the confederates made an attack on Fort Sumter and the president responded by sending in his organized volunteer army.
B. First Battle of Bull Run (1861) - This was the first major battle between the North and South during the Civil War. The Union army was led by Brigadier General Irvin McDowell and the Confederate army was lead by Brigadier Generals Joseph E. Johnston and P. G. T. Beauregard. The battle took place on July 21, 1861 in Bull Run, Manassas, Virginia. In the end, the Confederates were victorious and the Union army...
