Warrantless Wire Tapping
In the book 1984, The Ministry of Peace used telescreens to watch peoples every move, so they did not do anything that was wrong, or was illegal under the government’s laws. The telescreens are similar to now day warrantless wire tapping, in how people are being watched and listened to about anything they do. There are many people for and against the topic of warrantless wire tapping. I am for the warrantless wire tapping because I think the United States needs to keep control of the war on terror. The war on terror has been a big deal in the past ten years, and it is getting worse as the years go on.
The way that the warrantless wire tapping all started was in 2005 when George W. Bush passed the law stating that it is legal for the National Security Agency (NSA) to listen to anyone’s phone calls or read anyone’s emails. The Bill was called Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) which gave the NSA the freedom to listen to phone calls from anyone to whomever they wished to call. The act was first put into order in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter during his second year in office. This act was revised during G.W. Bush’s term in 2001 after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
I am for the warrantless wire tapping because it is used to find people that might be planning attacks against the United States and it could save lives in the future. Some other reasons I am for the warrantless wire tapping are the safety of my family, other people across the US, and me. Another reason that I am for the wire tapping is to keep the US safe from terrorist attacks in the future just in case another 9/11 happens.
If this act was used properly in years prior to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and on the Pentagon; the government might have been able to stop the attacks. In the attacks that happened on September 11, 2001, there were 2,992 people killed that could have been prevented if...
