The two main characters in “Julius Caesar” are indeed Caesar and Brutus. In this essay we will see which of the two is the most important by looking at their status and actions in the play.
First off all let’s take in account the fact that juluis Caesar was a very famous person in real life. He became a consul in 59 BC and from then on he became exceedingly successful. His ambition permitted him to extend his empire beyond Italy and to defeat his rival Pompey. This is reflected in the story as Caesar is loved and praised by the citizens. Unlike Brutus, Caesar is a public figure whose only goal is to have absolute power over Rome. He has no interest in the roman citizens (“You blocks, you stones, you less then senseless things” and practices a sort of tyrannical power over the ‘roman slaves’. His arrival is announced by the candle that “burns ill”. Suring this short period of time he tells Brutus that he will see him again at Philippi! Later on, in Act V scene 3, Caesar is present once again when Cassius decides to put an end to his life ; he misinterprets the information given by Pindarus and thinks that Titinius is being defeated...
