They say only the terminally ill patients and their relatives are the ones who can imagine how painful is it to live when the patient is almost in his grave. The fear of being stuck by medical machines or surviving the never ending pain or the financial or emotional drain on their relatives leads patients to take the dreadful step called euthanasia or assisted suicide. But should people have the right to choose when to take their life. I firmly believe that euthanasia should be abandoned from our society. Firstly it is not ethical because it affects the right of the patient, the doctor and society overall. Secondly it could lead to several practical problems such as discouraging medical research for newer cures. It is extremely difficult to be conducted properly and last of all there is an element of danger that murder can occur due to conspiracies by family or doctors. I believe that there are other alternatives to give relief to a patient who is terminally ill.
An issue that discourages euthanasia is that people who decide to kill themselves make these decisions even though it’s not in their best interest often due to pressure. Reasons for this are that the do not want to be a burden on their family members and want to avoid causing their family anguish. Research has shown that 88 percent of the people who chose death through euthanasia were doing so due to pressure of some kind. If we know that most of the people making such decision don’t really want to die and our society chooses to help them commit suicide. If this is acceptable, then why can’t we help people who want to commit suicide due to pressures? We can help them by giving them poison and giving them a place: providing them with an easier option rather then throwing themselves off building and laying on railway tracks. Moreover, allowing it in a way will reflect that it is better to be dead then to be sick or disabled. In a way it is discriminating against disabled people and downgrading...
