Becoming an Lawyer
Do you remember when the teacher use to ask, “What did you want to be when you grew up?” Well, I do since I was little I always wanted to be a lawyer. “Lawyer represents clients in criminal and civil cases by presenting arguments that support their clients in court” (SCOIS). I always thought it would be a great career for me because I like helping people who need help.
The reason why this career has always interest me is because I love to argue. I always wanted to do something that help people that couldn’t help their self. A lawyer career to me has always been my dream because all the law shows I watch made it my dream to become one. A lawyer is something that I wanted to be since I was in elementary school.
There are many skills that I would need in order to excel in the law profession. Many believe that it simply takes intelligence and knowledge of law but that is not the case. Lawyers need to be focused, maintain the discipline required to absorb large quantities of information, and to be willing persevere (So you want to be a Lawyer 17). Lawyers also need to be able to interpret law, apply laws to specific situations, and draft new laws. (So you want to be a Lawyer 17). “Much of their work involves researching precedents, which are earlier interpretation of law and the history of judicial decisions based on law” (Career Information Center 104)
In order to get in the field of law, I must be admitted to the bar in the state which one wants to practice (Career Information Center 106). In order to get into law school, I must have a high school diploma, a college degree, and an acceptable Law School Aptitude Test (LSAT) score. There are two important factors that determine ones admission to law school and ones undergraduate grades and your score on the LSAT (So you want to be a Lawyer 30).
