Why I want to be a U.S. Army Officer

When I began studying architecture, I was only interested in American architecture. Though my studies required it, I have never been interested in the architecture or the workings of countries beyond the United States. I never attributed this to my personal patriotism or that instilled in me by my military family. I have pride for this country, and it coupled with personal discipline and self sacrifice, I feel should be put to good use as an Army Officer.

In my years I have strived to grow in emotional maturity, obtain a greater work ethic, and to learn as much as my education will allow me. I have tried to live up to the standards that I have placed for myself and also those that other people see for me. I try to respect other people despite their differences, serve them with the highest honor, and never fail them. To better my work ethic I have remained loyal to the same company for several years and attempted to set high standards for myself and others around me.

I do not wish to be an Army Officer because of pride or politics, but to meet, learn from, grow, and serve great people. I by no means feel that I have all of the answers, but I feel that I do have the drive for knowledge and the ability to make good decisions with authority and leadership. I do believe that it takes a great leader to pool the strengths of others and to that I feel called.

I would count it a blessing to be an Officer in the U.S. Army. I find it my civic duty to serve. I look forward to living a military life again, this time dressed in the uniform of my country with a greater pride and humility than ever before. This is why I want to be an Army Officer.
