Social psychology is the scientific study of the way individuals think, feel, and behave in a social context. Social psychology often emphasizes the power of the situation in affecting people. Social psychology can be distinguished from other disciplines, including sociology, clinical psychology, personality psychology, and cognitive psychology; however, social psychology overlaps with each of these disciplines as well. Social psychology may at first appear to be common sense, but common sense often makes contradictory claims, and many of the findings in social psychology would not be predicted by common sense. Self-reported personality testing not only allots for analysis of how an individual views themselves, but also how they would like their idealized partners personality to appear. Using an assimilated form of the Big-five inventory of personality tests (BFI) assisted in the analysis of five commonly known personalities and their connection to self as well as mate reporting. These five personalities of agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, extraversion, and finally neuroticism were all analyzed to see whether there was a correlation between self-reports and desired mate reports. This occurred through surveys constructed and taken by a general college population of which provided substantive information.

Many psychologists have researched this topic, Maslow, Adams, Alderfer, and Herzberg theories have given society an understanding of motivation in the workplace. These different personalities can occur through different people because not everybody is the same. In my case, I chose the Neurotic theory because this theory relates to my personality for the most part. Neurotic theories have been brought from the theorist Karen Horney. Karen Horney had come up with the best theory for Neurosis and it relates to me because I can agree with the needs that it calls for an individual.
