Faith is universally defined as one; belief without proof,for example, having faith in a friend to “have your back” should you get in a fight. Second, faith is defined as a belief in God, religion or spiritual things. Third, as what is believed, such as a doctrine or tenet. Lastly, faith is defined as a system of religion or creed, for example the Christian faith.
The Bible defines faith clearly in Hebrews 11:1 as “the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:3 goes on to say “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen, were not made of things which do appear.” It allows for one to speak things into existence. Having faith enables one to see things that are not, as though they were.
Matthew 17:14-20 tells the story of a man who's son was a “lunatic and was sore vexed”. The man brought the son to the disciples but none of them could cure him. So the man took the son to Jesus who was able to cure him. When the disciples privately asked Jesus how was he able to cure the son when they had failed, Jesus replied “Because of your unbelief. For verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place, and it shall be removed;and nothing shall be impossible to you.” Jesus was telling them that if you truly believe in the power of the God then, all things are possible.
Galatians 2:16 asserts that “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ...that we might be justified by the faith of Christ,and not by the works of the law. For the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” This is to say that believers of Christ live in this world, but are not of the world.
