Mainstream music is too over-rated
My particular taste in music is, in my mind, unique. I wasn’t always so choosy about what I like, and choose to listen to. It has been acquired through maturity and exposure to the many genres of music. What I listen to and immerse myself in is that of electronic music. I find great clarity and inspiration from listening to electronic music.
How I came to like this music has been a long story. I figure it was a while ago when I was much younger and not very cultured. My friend at the time, Jeremiah, invited me to come out to a nightclub with him one faithful night back in 98, and I went. Needless to say, I was totally unprepared for the experiences that lie ahead. I was introduced to many things that night, all very new to me. The sights and sounds were almost like experiencing sensory overload. There was a light rig set-up with a plethora of colors, all flashing and waving about. They almost seemed to have been in sync with the beats and melodic tones of the tracks the DJ was spinning. Strobe lights would flicker on and off. A fog machine would kick on periodically leaving the dance room in a euphoric haze. The DJ spinning at the club had the whole crowd at his attention immersed within a blend of techno and jungle-tones. It was my first full experience with what is widely known as electronic music.
The genre of electronic music can be defined as, a type of music in which sounds are created and modified with electronic instruments, synthesizers, computers, highly advanced turntables, and a creative composer. The individual track is what would be considered a “song” in other areas of music but doesn’t always have to contain vocals or lyrics. A track can be anywhere from one minute up to a 4 hour continuous set of electronically produced sounds, rhythms, melodies, and beats recorded and arranged by the composer to form the musical composition as a whole.
