Business Communication Trends Paper
In this paper I will discuss how business communication plays a role in my day-to-day
activities at work and explain how I manage business communication in my daily activities at
work.   I will also examine what trends I have seen in my current or previous workplace and the
result from these trends.
Communication
Communication is often defined as the exchange of information from one entity, or
being, to another. This information comes in two forms: verbal communication and nonverbal
communication. Verbal communication is the use of language or written statements to transfer
information; verbal communication is possibly used more. Verbal communication consists of
face-to-face conversations, phone conversations, presentations, e-mail messages, letters, memos,
reports, blogs, and text messaging. Nonverbal communication uses any item other than words to
communicate. This consists of graphics, logos and other symbol that replaces the use of words.
Body language and other interpersonal signals are also examples of nonverbal communication.
Communication also can be thought of as formal or non-formal.   A means of non-formal
communication would be that of a friend, family member or peer whereas formal communication
would be that of a business or professional environment; a person whom one has not met before
would require formal communication also.
Role that business communication plays at work
Business communication plays a very vital role in my day-to-day activities from faced-to-
face conversations, telephone conversations, team meetings, and e-mails. When there is
ineffective communication between coworkers and managers, when there is ineffective
