Hope on New AIDS Drugs, but Breast-Feeding Strategy Backfires
Q: What was the effect of two new medications that indicated that they can knock down HIVs that have become resistant to current drugs and are popping up?
H1: these two drugs does have an effect to knock down HIVs that have become resistant to current drugs.
H2: These two drugs does not have an effect to knock down HIVs that have become resistant to current drugs.
E: they both tested drugs, says if their potency and safety hold up, clinicians should reevaluate when to start treatment. But recommendations encourage delaying treatment until something serious happens, in part to reduce toxic effects.
Both drugs were tested for a very short time less than 1-year. These drugs do not appear to cause serious side effects in large numbers of people. But, a caution is recommended for the long term users for this drug as that the researcher’s doesn’t know yet the long term side effect.

It was given to some patients, 61% of them were able to reduce viral levels in the blood to undetectable levels. “That compared to 5% of patients with the same background of drugs who did not receive raltegravir” (Ed Susman). It deleived along with the best combination of other drugs available was clearly superior to the best optimized treatment without raltegrravir, said Dr. Cooper.
Maraviroc made by Pfizer, gums up CCR5 to prevent HIV from binding to it. targets human immune cells rather than the virus. HIV enters cells by attacking to the CD4 receptor and one of two chemokine receptors, CCR5 or CXCR4.
