Euthanasia
This is a widely discussed topic that many people that many people have different opinions about. Some disagree with euthanasia due to religion and their beliefs and other believe that it is right because it puts one out of their misery. Because of these conflicts and their beliefs you cant really pick a side without one person being against you. Well that is what this paper is for to educate you on the different sides of beliefs about euthanasia and what the similarities.
First off, euthanasia, which in Greek means “good death”, is the practice of killing a person or animal, in a painless or minimally painful way, for merciful reasons, usually to end their suffering. According to a May 2004 Gallup Poll, 53% of all Americans feel euthanasia is morally acceptable, while 41 percent believe it is wrong and the other 6% are clueless about this whole situation. Euthanasia in the strict sense involves actively causing death. Euthanasia in a wider sense includes assisting sufferers to commit suicide, in particular physician-assisted suicide.
There are four different types of euthanasia. First type of euthanasia is passive euthanasia. Passive euthanasia is defined as withdrawing medical treatment with the deliberate intention of causing the patient's death. Second type is active euthanasia, which is taking specific steps to cause the patient's death, such as injecting the patient with poison. Also, there is involuntary euthanasia, which is when a patient's life is ended without the patient's knowledge and consent and lastly there is voluntary euthanasia. Voluntary euthanasia is when the patient requests that action be taken to end his life, or that life-saving treatment be stopped, with full knowledge that this will lead to his death.
