The Perks of Being a Wallflower was written by Stephen Chbosky in 1999. The book is based upon the life of a high school freshman that goes by the name Charlie. At the start of the novel Charlie is very shy and has very few friends. He is still coping with the death of his best friend, Michael. Eventually Charlie makes a couple friends, which leads to him making more friends. Through this group of friends, Charlie experiences a life of sex and drugs. The friends of Charlie tend to call him a ‘wallflower,’ meaning that he is the type of person who blends into his surroundings and just observes what is going on around him. Charlie is the type of person who puts the feelings of other people before his own. Of course it is a nice thing to do, but one person can only endure so many problems in their life. Charlie would help other people with their problems or interests before he would focus on the problems he was having in his life, which added stress to the life of Charlie and wore him down over time.
A lot of the time, some of his friends would come to Charlie because they knew that he would listen. That is basically the same thing with me. All of my friends know that they can count on me when they need someone to talk to, and in return, I expect the same from, at least, my true friends. It is always nice to have someone that will listen to you. Sometimes you need to open up to them so that they will open up to you. You have to build trust. Charlie would listen, but he would never ask other for help or for someone to talk to. He felt like he was not as important and that he had to make his friends happy by helping them out. While Charlie was dating Mary Elizabeth, he listened to everything she had to say. After a while it began to annoy him that she constantly talked about herself. Charlie never tried to talk about himself though. In the end Charlie ended up kissing Sam while playing ‘Truth or Dare.’ When he kissed Sam instead of...
