Introduction
Smart companies around the globe are dependent upon active critical thinkers in order to develop, produce and disseminate their goods and services. In order for Managers to be in a position of creating change within their organisations, they need to have certain characteristics to create the groundswell needed to drive business growth, create change and sometimes to create chaos in order to obtain change.   These characteristics are definitely capable of encouraging boldness, the ability to be focussed and they are able to provide a consistent energy or urgency required for market competitiveness.   This author believes that in order to enhance the ability of managers to be bold, focussed and work with urgency they require a base element or skill to facilitate this ability.   The skill referred to is critical thinking.   Managers need to learn, exhibit and teach critical thinking skills to their colleagues and employees.

Why? Because making decisions in today’s world — a world of increasing pressure, uncertainty, conflicting ideas and opinions, creates challenges that managers need to navigate. Understanding key methods of critical thinking helps managers learn to address the right problems identify risks and make better decisions.   It encourages them to be bold, focussed and clearly articulates the need for urgency.
