Why is eating healthy important? Eating healthy is important because it lowers the risk of obesity, illnesses and expensive care cost. Many people tend to live unhealthy lives because they tend to over eat or either they don’t include a well balance diet when planning meals. When this happens, people tend to consume too many calories, carbohydrates and fats in their diets and not enough healthy nutrients. Many people fail to realize that there may be some serious consequences behind not eating healthy. Although eating healthy may be difficult for some people to maintain, eating healthy can lead to a longer healthier life.
There are many benefits to eating healthy foods. Eating healthy and living healthy can prevent obesity, lower the risk of chronic illnesses and prevent expensive medical cost. Eating healthy helps to support the immune system which can help fight against health problems such as high blood pressure, cancer and other diseases. According to Dr. Christine H. Farlow, D.C (2002) eating healthy can” prevent certain diseases known to be related to diet and nutrition, particularly cancer, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) (n.d.) data from a recent NHANES survey2 found that. Obesity prevalence among children and adolescents showed no significant changes between 2003—2004 and 2005—2006. Based on the study, in the combined years of 2003—2006, 16.3% of children and adolescents aged 2–19 years were obese, at or above the 95th percentile of the 2000 BMI-for-age growth charts. With such a high obesity rate it brought concerns due to its implications for the health of Americans. Many people don’t know that obesity is a chronic medical disease that can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses for adults over 35 and older, and having a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 is considered to be obese....
