Identity Of Dual Ciltures

Submitted by brian.vic on June 24, 2009

All countries develop their own unique cultures to live by. There are many differences and similarities between my home country’s culture and the American culture that I live in now. Both countries have very different factors which make up their culture; starting from their food and values. The cultures are also similar in the way that they enjoy similar forms of entertainment like music.

In Mexico, my home country, their culture can be expressed by many factors like the food they eat. The same can be said about the United States. My home country has many different plates made up of different foods like shrimp, rice, beans, chicken, pork, and many other Spanish foods. This American country also has different plates that consist of corn, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, pizza and so on. My homeland prepares most, if not all of their foods from scratch. This means that it takes them a couple more steps to prepare a meal while following a recipe’s directions. This is different for the American culture which prepares most their food in a microwave or better yet goes out to eat what is known as “fast-foods”. An example of their differences could be shown when preparing mashed potatoes. In Mexico this would be made by smashing cooked potatoes together; while in the U.S.A. they would simply mix the ingredients from a mash potato box. Also in my homeland most of the food is naturally grown and cultivated for immediate use; while in America most of the food is grown with preservatives and chemicals to speed the natural growth process and make the food last longer. A reason for these differences could be because of the amount of money that one country makes as opposed to the other. In my homeland they have a lower economic system than the U.S.A.; so therefore they can’t always afford to eat out every day or to use so many chemicals and preservatives.
