Trouble had been boiling between the United States and Britain ever since they broke away from the British.   There were many issues in which the two sides did not agree on.   Before the war started the United States had stopped trading with both Britain and France. The two sides almost worked out an agreement but the British pulled out at the last second.   The United states then in 1812 decided to declare war   on Britain even though the British were about to agree to the deal and stop the conflict.   With more time the policy would have gone through without any violence.  
The main cause of the war of 1812 was the United States demand for neutral shipping rights.   Madison also fed the fire with stories of Indian attacks that were blamed on the British.   The united states were attacked by a tribe of Indians in a bloody battle.   After the battle the chief of the tribe fled to Canada under British rule.   These actions led the United States to believe that the British were telling the Indians to attack and then helping them hide.   The United States however, saw Canada as Britain’s weak spot to where they were vulnerable to an attack from the United States.   All these things added together gave the government “war fever” with many senators backing Madison’s plan for war.  
After the war of 1812 America was going through a time of extreme patriotism.   Even though it basically ended in a tie the Americans felt as though they gained victory thanks to the great battle in New Orleans.     This was the United States second war over their independence and they felt great after surviving both of them and driving the British back.   When the United States stopped trading with Europe it really allowed the economy to grow and also American manufacturers were also very steadily raising their production.   Other countries worldwide started to notice that the United States was on their way to being a world power.   During the war Africans saw this as a chance to pirate American ships...
