All four of our early presidents: George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison all had problems with either France and or England. For example, George Washington and James Madison had problems with England. John Adams had major problems with France. Overall, Thomas Jefferson had problems with both France and England. They each faced many problems in their presidencies.
George Washington was a national hero as our first president. Everyone loved him so much that he ran unopposed. He is that only president in U.S. history that was not afflicted with a political party. He thought that political parties would tear our country apart and lead to civil war. “A painstaking inquiry into all the problems confronting the new nation laid the basis for a series of judicious recommendations to Congress in his first message” (3). Washington set a very important precedent that is still in effect today. He picked a group of advisors called the cabinet to help him make major decisions. In the cabinet, there was a secretary of treasury, a secretary of state, and a secretary of war. During the time of Washington’s presidency, Alexander Hamilton was the secretary of treasury. He was a wizard in economics. Thomas Jefferson was the secretary of state at this time. His job was to give advice on war, peace, treaties, and how to deal with other countries. Lastly, Washington’s secretary of war was Henry Knox. Washington had problems with England because the English were supplying the Indians with weapons, and were killing innocent Americans. The American public demanded to go to war with England, but Washington refused, knowing that we would lose.
The Next president was John Adams. He was definitely well qualified to be that president of the United States since he had already been the vice-president for eight years. This election with John Adams was the first real election in all of U.S. history because there were three major...
