A Summary of the Book titled “The Age of Revolution”

All throughout the course of history and on almost every part of the world religion has been present. This is because people are always looking for something to believe in, whether it is a superior being, a greater good or even a certain concept. This is exactly what the churches offer to it’s followers. People felt safe when they were members of a congregation, they did not have to worries about anything because their entire life was in some way mapped out for them. This was exceptional for the church because they were able to shape the followers minds into whatever they wanted. It was also good for the followers of that specific church because they didn’t have to worry about much of anything, the church made all the important decisions for them. This way of going about things was very common in most parts of the world, nevertheless in Europe during the 17th century religion almost ceased to insist. Wile other countries had synonyms for Christian that meant man or peasant, Europe was completely extinguishing religion from European life.

In the mid 18th century it was very common for gentleman of the elite class to practice some sort of religious rituals and duties, they were trying to set an example to the lower class. Since the elite were looked up to and respected this concept had great results for the most part. But it was thought that the elite did not really believe in religion the way that it was mean to be believed in, in fact they thought more like an atheist’s.

As time went on in the latter 18th century Christianity became an extremely rare thing. It was replaced with an array of other belief like anti clerical freemasonry, rationalist, anti traditionalism and the whole free thinker thing. This change in ideas happened because some...
