Difficult Situation

As I got on the plan to take me back to American from Pakistan I felt a sense of liberation. I was not liberated from any type of oppression; instead I was free from the contraction of the culture and the close family ties that were valued in Pakistan. I turned on my IPod for the first time in months and could finally turn off the world, blot out my surrounding, and tune to my own beat. Two seats down from me was my 12 year old sister. She was sitting next to another girl who looked about her age. They were fervently talking about where they came from and where they were headed. The person next t to me was a middle aged woman who was reading a book. I failed to greet her while my sister was already having a conversation with the person next to her. At that point I finally realized the values of communication in Pakistan are stronger than those in more technologically advanced nations.

Dinner at my own house consists of me opening up the fridge to see what the latest Tupperware my mom has packed. I want to bridge the gap that has been broken because of new ways of communication.
I want to exercise the values that I learned in Pakistan to all aspects of my life. In high school seeing that I had a leadership position, student body vice president attempted to bring students and teachers closer by allowing the student body to offer open comments on how well they think teachers are doing.
