A Midnight'S Summer Dream

Act 1, Scene I

This introduces the characters Theseus, Hippolyta, Egeus, Helena, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius. It starts with Theseus and Hippolyta announcing there engagement and continues with Egeus trying to convince his daughter, Hermia to marry Demetrius. Hermia confess her love for Lysander, as he does for her. Hermia is faced with the dilemma of choosing Demetrius or living life as a nun. Then Demetrius is accused of sleeping with Helena, and later Helena confirms it to Hermia. Helena is jealous of Hermia and Demetrius love for her. Lysander and Hermia decide to run away.

Act 1, Scene II

In this scene Peter, Nick , Snug, Flute, Snout, and Starveling are introduced. Peter has decided to put on a craftsman’s play for Theseus wedding celebrations. He cast Himself as the Prologue, Nick as Pyramus, Snug as the lion, Flute as a young girl in love, Snout as the wall dividing two lovers, and Starveling as Moonshine.

Act 2, Scene I

In the scene the reader is introduced to Robin, a fairy, Oberon, and Titania. The conflict of the play is also introduced, Oberon comes up with the idea to sprinkle “love juice” on Titania’s eyes to obtain the Indian boy. The conflict is completely obvious when Oberon states that he wishes Titania to fall in love with an animal species and his servant, Robin, promises to do so.

Act 2, scene II

This scene starts out with Titania’s fairies and chorus singing her a lullaby to fall asleep too. Once she is asleep the “love juice” is sprinkled on her eyes. Next Lysander and Hermia fall asleep and Robin enters and sprinkles the potion on Lysander’s eyes. Then Helena enters and wakes Lysander, who immediately falls in love with her.

Act 3, scene I
