The first sentence transcribed on each mission statement plaque that proudly hangs in every classroom throughout St. John's Preparatory School says that St. John's is committed to educating the whole person. While viewing the term “whole person” it makes me think about what a whole person actually is. Is this whole person someone who is considered perfect or is this whole person someone who's morals and character lead their actions to enrich their inner person until they are truly whole? I may not be the perfect student or best athlete but my actions throughout my daily life do exhibit the qualities that help me essentially become whole through my actions, feelings, and thoughts. The experience that I have gained and accomplishments have truly shaped me into having the ability to exemplify the mission of St. John's Preparatory School through my character, service, scholarship and leadership
I believe that exemplifying the mission of St. Johns requires me to exercise my whole person put into one. The Prep is the glue that holds me together. I am a student, I am a teacher, I am a son, I am a brother, and I am a friend. Over Christmas break I had two distinct conversations with two distinct men. The first conversation was with a customer of my fathers who owns a successful real estate company and is very presumptuous with his appearance and style. The second man , Fred, was a homeless man who I had met at one of the monthly trips my youth group takes to the soup kitchen My Brothers Table. Fred is a Vietnam War Veteran. In both conversations I was able to carry my own and I was able to learn, gaining life experiences. I respected both the same amount and I was ale to have a steady conversation with both of these very different man even though there education levels were different.
