For the given assignment in Biblical Prosperity, I chose to read Gloria Copeland’s book God’s Will is Prosperity. I chose the book because of the ministry that the Copeland Family has, and the strength in their message of faith. This book ended up being a great book to parallel the studies of the class, and it helped tremendously in further explanation of what we covered in the short six weeks of Biblical Prosperity. I would most definitely recommend this book; not just to Biblical Prosperity students, but to any believer in general. The book truly pushes the reader to understand God’s meaning of prosperity in our lives. Money does not solve everything; it was never meant to. Gloria Copeland describes the true meaning of prosperity based solely on Biblical values and truths. This book has seriously challenged my thoughts on prosperity, and ultimately on what God’s plan for my life is.
The book begins with the premise that God gave promises in His Word; that these promises are eternal, and that they are guaranteed. Copeland describes the blessing of Abraham, a covenant included in the syllabus as well. She says, “God will settle His covenant on a permanent basis in your life.” No power can alter the covenant that God has made with us. In Biblical Prosperity, Mrs. Johnson taught that the covenants of God are conditional. This idea is expressed in the book also, because while the covenants that God has promised us will never change-they are eternal- it is completely up to the believer to choose to receive them. Something that Copeland points out that is extremely interesting, is the fact that because no power can alter the covenants of God for prosperity, “the blessing of the covenant cannot be stopped in the life of an heir as long as he keeps the covenant”. Copeland says that even slavery could not (and can not) alter the covenant of God. She uses the example of a slave in the Old South, and she describes the prosperity for them being that the slave was...
