Have you ever considered paying any attention to discrimination; well I haven’t until just recently when I read an article entitled “going for the look, but risking discrimination”, by Steven Greenhouse. In “going for the looks, but risking discrimination”, there is a character named Marshal Cohen, and he believed hiring attractive people will cause him to obtain an increasing amount of income. Cohen wants nothing but the top notch, beautiful, attractive employees, ignoring the truly intelligent, hard working, experienced personalities. I disagree with Cohen’s argument because I figured it’s unfair to the true potential out there working hard to get somewhere. I think Cohen so covetous for money; he would segregate the beauty from the potential immorally.
I disagree with Cohen’s argument because it’s unjust. Now I admit I like a little extra money in my pocket, but to go as far as to see people as “walking billboards”, said by Marshal Cohen, that’s just absurd. I think that makes Cohen a voracious person, greedy, careless, and obligated to money no matter the cost. I wouldn’t work for a man so dishonorable and greedy minded. In my opinion, I don’t think Cohen’s argument reflects well on him at all.
I think if Cohen knew the way the unemployed people felt, he’d rearrange his ideas about “walking billboards”. I was flabbergasted when I read the quote, “If someone came in with a pretty face, we were told to approach them and ask them if they wanted a job”, as If that were their model to look at positively. The employees must of felt good, no great that they’ve been hired at Abercrombie and their even happier that they can offer jobs, but how would an “unattractive” person feel. I don’t think it’s fair to give an opportunity to work at there to one person, but not the same opportunity to another person because they’re “unattractive”.
