Harmful Effects & Effectiveness of Stimulant Drug treatments for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is a mental disorder affecting people of all ages and conditions although usually diagnosed during childhood. ADHD is a disorder classified by a patients inability to complete or participate in sustained activity, disorganization, forgetfulness, impatient, and sometimes aggression. ADHD has been known and documented since the early 20th century and treatments for this disorder vary from physiological conditioning, narcotic stimulants, and herb treatments. In recent years the conventional treatment for this mental disease has been the sole use of stimulants such as Adderall and Focalin despite more natural treatments that have been used for decades. Although the FDA has approved use of narcotic stimulants to deal with the multiple symptoms of ADHD can the sole use of these drugs provide long term treatment needed for these patients? With drugs with such high costs to insurance companies and possible damaging effects and chances of addition on the users one would assume that they offered eventual treatment for the disease. To date no study has shown a complete recovery from ADHD from only using stimulants which probes the question are patients/parents willing to try non-conventional methods to help treat themselves/their children or just simply looking for methods to provide a quick fix?

The first documented case of ADHD was made by a Dr. Still in Britain 1902. He called the disorder a "Defect of Moral Control." The first form of treatment for this disorder didn't arise until 1937, where a Dr. Charles Bradly used stimulants on children who's hyperactivity needed to be controlled. Later in 1956 the drug Ritalin, a narcotic stimulant, was introduced as a form of treatment.
