Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to Nick Camille’s article, “Communication and Women: Wearing the Pants in the Industry.” As the PR Director for the National Association of Women in Communications, I would like to express our appreciation for this informational and educational piece. It has increased the awareness of prominent women in the field of communications as well as provided for a credible researching tool to several students at numerous universities. Although we were generally pleased with the article, it contained a few inaccuracies.

The first inaccurate statement was “women do not receive top communications jobs at a rate of 92%.” In reality, women do receive the top communications jobs when competing with men at the rate of 50% of the time. The article also stated “the average salary for a woman with 10 years of experience was $55,000” when, in fact, it is $50,000. The final mistake was the picture identification where the caption identified the woman as “Executive Director Danielle Williamson,” when it was the president of the association, Rebecca Tantisook.

We strongly feel that the inaccuracies presented in this article may halt our progress in helping women succeed in the communications industry. The National Association of Women in Communications withholds the upmost pride in providing accurate and truthful information to our publics. We trust the Daily Bulletin embraces the same ideals.
