Perfection; is it possible? Can someone really be perfect? Well apparently, it is possible, in the future. The movie Gattaca is directed by Andrew Niccol and the film is set out in the "not too distant future." In the movie there are two types of “classes” the invalids and the valids. The invalids are the people that were born normally without genetic engineering. The valids are the super race, the ones that have been genetically engineered before birth to rid themselves of and diseases or any imperfection. This movie presents us with a new method in which society strives for perfection and it also makes the audience wonder if genetic engineering is morally correct.
Genetically “fixing” your baby before it is even born may seem like a good plan, but what we do not see is that this can also raise many social problems. Instead of struggles with race, soon there will be struggle with conformity. Is it morally correct to crush an individual's dreams because they don't conform to society's idea of perfection? Would you want to live in a place where you are not treated as a person or a human being with emotions, but judged by your DNA. This futuristic form of prejudice shows a look into the future where discrimination is not as simple as black and white but much more complex and deeper like the perfect DNA. You see there are still struggles in the world today. I do not want add to the struggle and live in a place where we are judged by something they can not see.
