Starbucks Internal/External Essay

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to compare the internal and external factors that influence a company. We have looked at all of the aspects of the business process including globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics. We have examined how these internal and external factors impact the four functions of management. As a final point we will describe how managers can use delegation to manage the impact that these factors have on the four functions of management.





When people think of coffee shops the first name that typically comes to mind is Starbucks. This is mostly due to the fact that Starbucks has had such renowned success in the coffee industry and business in general that they have spread like wildfire throughout the world leaving few countries without a shop to call their own. Not only can you acquire a double-latte Frappuccino topped off with some fluffy whip cream in one of their thousands of Starbucks coffee shops, but if one would like some coffee on the go and are not near one of the numerous store locations, then one need only to locate a grocery or convenient store and grab a Starbucks coffee drink in the refrigerator section, minus the fluffy whip cream of course.


Globalization
Starbucks has etched its name in coffee history by developing into a foremost intercontinental coffee corporation that has taken the coffee industry by storm with over 11,000 stores spread throughout the world (Starbucks, 2008). Through proper planning procedures Starbucks has grown from a modest Seattle based coffee and tea business, into a colossal coffee empire. Extraordinary organization structures are an obvious prerequisite for any business that wishes to flourish in a global environment.
