What Is Love
Today I am here to make a presentation about “what is love”. For me this isn’t an easy issue as I have never thought such concept before.
Love has many definitions, which varies from one person to another. For a four-year-old, love is marrying her daddy when she grows up. For an elementary school kid, love is what he or she feels for his or her best friend, who also serves as a boyfriend or girlfriend. To a fifteen-year-old boy, love is what he should feel for his girlfriend of the moment, only because she says she loves him. But as we get older and “wiser,” love becomes more and more confusing. Along with poets and philosophers, people have been trying to answer that age-old question for centuries: What is love?
According to the Encarta Encyclopedia, love is an emotion that is “explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God.” In the Webster’s dictionary it defines “love” as: strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties, affection based on admiration or common interests.
It seems that love is the word that represents the deepest and the most important feelings of mankind. One may never know what love is until it has been experienced. Love is the most amazing, affectionate feeling that can be experienced.
Is there an absolute meaning to the word - love? Or is it purely subjective? The concept of true love is what we search for all our lives. Yet love is one of the most misunderstood concepts of all. What people really want more than anything else is to be loved unconditionally; to be accepted for who we are, and still be loved. Sometimes we will do some crazy things, "in the name of love."
