Black Boy- Richard Wright Essay

There are two major points that I pulled out of pages 100-101 in Richard Wrights Autobiography Black Boy. First, that the events in Richard’s childhood affected his decisions in life more than any other factor. The second point was that the severity and toughness of Richard’s childhood caused him to be more successful as a writer later in life.
First, the harsh event of Richard’s early childhood molded and shaped his personality therefore influencing every single one of his decisions in life. He wrote “Her life set the emotional tone of my life, colored the men and women I was to meet   in the future, conditioned my relation to events that had not yet happened, determined my attitude to situations and circumstances I had yet to face.” to me this shows that every decision he will ever make in life will be approached in a different fashion therefore changing the answer to that question more than any other factor could possibly change it.
The success of his writing career should be credited to the way his personality made gave him perfect traits to pursue a career in writing. In his writing on page 101 he noted that his childhood made him “love burrowing into psychology, into realistic and naturalistic fiction and art, into those whirlpools of politics that had the power to claim the whole of men’s souls.” These traits that he gained from enduring through the toughest of times due to racism, family illnesses and poverty gave carved him in a way that made him have the perfect mind to become a great writer.
