Many different people have different views on the environment. Some people care very much about the wealth of the environment while others would rather live the American dream. Bill McKibben and John Bragg both share their thoughts and feelings about how SUV’s affect the environment. With global warming, many people are unaware of the harmful affects the environment is having on earth. While reading both articles, I second guessed my thoughts on suv’s.
In “Driving Global Warming”, Bill McKibben wanted the reader to realize how SUV’s are not suitable for the environment. He is mainly trying to get the point across to Christians. McKibben explains how God created earth for us to live on, not to destroy. SUV’s are a major cause in global warming because they burn more fuel than smaller cars. SUV’s are made for “off-road” use, but McKibben states that nine out of ten SUV’s don’t even leave the payment. He wants the point to come across that owning an SUV is somewhat immoral. By ruining the environment, the moral values that we should follow are being broken. We should care more about our environment; rather then own a “gas hog” for the looks.

In the “American Dream: Why Environmentalists Attack the SUV”, John Bragg’s main point is to inform the reader that SUV’s are much safer than smaller cars. He wants to target everyone but environmentalists. He makes a point that SUV’s are more spacious and gives the driver freedom, which is what the American dream is. Bragg states that environmentalists should be worrying about bigger things that are destroying the environment rather then attacking people with SUV’s. Bragg wants environmentalists to realize that an SUV is a symbol of America. There is freedom in having an SUV. Knowing you can go anywhere you want and have the room you want in a car is what Americans want.
