When it comes to proper education, children often are at a disadvantage or become a product of their environment in urban settings. This is due to dwindling numbers of competent, qualified teachers for the urban classroom; thus creating an unprecedented need for enthusiastic and devoted teachers. The Urban Accelerated Certification and Masters Program (UACM) was developed to address these issues and gradually change the shortage of proficient teachers.
In our country the environment a child is born into determines their educational outcome, which is a determinant of their future. All children have the same potential to achieve. Unfortunately, most low income communities and urban school systems lack the resources to meet the overwhelming needs of the students. My career and educational goals are to help end this educational inequity by becoming a phenomenal teacher; and the UACM is a perfect outlet to do so.
A nurturer, educator, and mentor, and are all adjectives that comprise what an ideal teacher should be. Not only do I posses all of these qualities, but my love for children is what makes me a perfect addition to the UACM Program. Nurturers provide the support and encouragement vital to a child’s developmental phase. As a teacher I will instill the knowledge and fundamentals needed in this important stage of life, to shape them for the future.
Becoming a mentor to my students would be an honor. During the early childhood developmental stages, children tend to mirror the individuals they have in their lives. That’s why it is important for me to be a great role model they can look up to and trust. My behavior and personal success will be a good example for my students.
