CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION


1.1. Background

Language is a link which connects all people in the world. People need it when they want to communicate with others. The humans’ ability to learn language is started since they are children. It naturally happens through adaptation because language ability is a simply matter of imitation and habit formation. People hear sound around them and then practice it in conversation.
Every country has its own language which is called as mother tongue. It is considered to be the country’s identity because every mother tongue has its own grammar, accent, vocabulary, etc. Therefore, the process of learning foreign language of one person is different from another.
English which is considered as the second language in Indonesia has different aspects in language, especially the grammar. Grammar is one important part of the language. It is the knowledge of structural regularities of language that a speaker possesses in the mind. Every native knows the grammar of his/her language because it is stored unconsciously in the mind since one is still a child. So, the writer as an Indonesian, whose language is Bahasa, wants to do research whether there is any influence on Indonesian grammar to English language produce or not.

1.2. Statement of Problem

There are two main problems that the writer wants to analyze in this topic:
1. How Indonesian grammar influences English language produce in terms of the pronoun?
2. Why Indonesians are influenced or not by their mother tongue in their English language produce?
1.3. Scope and Limitation

The writer focuses on analyzing the influences of Indonesian grammar to English language produce, in terms of pronoun.
The writer limits the research by taking 20 students of 3rd semester student of Bina Nusantara University majoring in English Literature as samples. The students will...
