Some nights just stand out at in one's memory. Those are the times where an occurrence so awesome causes a shocking idea to enter the mind. One night that clearly affected my thoughts on the world in a way that never occurred to me was May 10, 2003. On this night, a series of super cells raced through central Illinois, bringing with them a large number of tornadoes that covered Schuller, Tazewell, Fulton, Mason, and Woodford Counties. One might wonder if I was directly affected by one of these tornadoes. A straight answer would be no, however, my life since that night has most surely changed.
"Keith, hurry up, or you'll be late for work," my mom called toward the bathroom at home. I was finishing my last-minute events that I always did before I left: shaving, hair, and cologne. I stepped out of the bathroom and could see outside the kitchen window that the trees were blowing pretty hard. I had heard that it was supposed to storm, so I did not even think twice about this matter. I grabbed my hat, bowtie, and nametag; grabbed my keys; went out the door; and drove off towards Kerasotes Showplace 12 in North Pekin for what would be an event-filled day of work.
The entire drive to work was interesting. I was a large man driving a tiny Geo Metro in fifteen to twenty mile per hour winds, and I really learned how many muscles one could use just driving down the road. As I pulled into the parking lot at work, it was about ten minutes to five o'clock p.m. I could see storm clouds billowing in the southwest and smiled; I have always loved storms. I got into work and clocked in, only to find out that I would be working cashier instead of concessions that day. Apparently whenever there is supposed to be a storm, the general population finds the best choice is watching a movie. The night was pretty uneventful at first; we had a large crowd coming in to see movies, especially "Daddy Day Care", "Down With Love", and "X2:...
