Analysis of: Queen of Trees
The queen of all trees is the fig tree. The sicamor tree fruits twice a year and drop leaves whenever it pleases. It provides food for hundreds of species. It feeds the widest variety of all the trees in Africa. The buds swell to become figs. Inside the figs there are lots of flowers inside. Fig wasp burrow inside the fig and the pollen from their body pollinates the flowers inside the fig. The wasp lay their eggs into some of the seeds and the tree becomes a serigit mother for the eggs of the wasp. Wasp are not the only species who use the tree as a home. The gray horned bill nest in them to. The female gray horn seals herself in a hollow hole in the tree with only enough room to be able to receive food. Insects and herbavores are a hazardous to the tree. If they eat too many of its leaves the tree will abort the figs. A protection device that the tree has is excreting a white milky solution. The solution is foul tasting so it will not be eaten. Some insects have evolved to overcome the substance. Horn beattles bite through the vein of the leaf to stop the flow of latex. When the flow is stopped horn beattle will feed. The catidid will cut off the leaf to stop the flow of the solution and will then eat the fallen leaf. Fermenting juice provide vinegar flies with and alcoholic beverage. When the flies are lethargic and cant always get away from the pink mantice who eats them. To protect the wasp in the tree the queen closes the figs. Parasite wasp will come and drill into the figs and deposit eggs. Then another parasite wasp comes behind them and use the hole that has already been dug into the fig to deposit its eggs. The parasite wasp will grow and kill the wasps that are responsible for pollination. Ants are the main body guard of the queen. They will kill any inset that gets on the tree and drive off any animal that climbs on the tree. The only insect the ants allow to stay is the Hilda bug. Ants use...
