4G Wireless Networks Information Systems for Decision Making July 28, 2013 Compare and Contrast 3G Wireless Networks to 4G Networks Mobile phone technology has the changed the communication landscape and created a driving thirst for newer and better technologies. 3G or 3rd Generation is a wireless technology that allows internet browsing over wireless networks. 4G or 4th Generation is also a wireless technology that optimizes data over wireless networks. The speed and efficiency of data delivery is greatly enhanced. In comparing and contrasting both networks we will look at: Their Services and Application Examples of services offered by 3G wireless networks are, GLOBAL ROAMING, CDMA2000, UMTS, and EDGE along with a list of others while 4G networks offer Wimax2 and LTE-Advance. 3G was innovative and opened a world of possibilities for smart phone users. The applications allowed users to stream video and audio, video calling, video conferencing and a huge array of multimedia applications in the mobile environment. 4G came with greatly enhanced speeds for internet browsing, included all the applications of 3G in addition to new ones. The new ones include amended mobile web access, high definition mobile television, gaming services, video conferencing, IP telephony and even 3D television. Videos can be downloaded at a speed of four times that of 3G. The internet speed of 4G mobile services is 100MBPS (21 MB per second) in comparison to a low speed of 21 MBPS in 3G phones.
