WHY AND HOW ARE GREENHOUSE GASES THE CAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING
One of the most important topics in our time is Global Warming. It is widely talked about and constantly discussed. A widely talked about question about global warming is why and how greenhouse gases the cause of global warming. In the following paper I will discuss and give some of the reasons why and how greenhouse gases are the cause of global warming. Global Warming is a serious matter and we the human race are not helping the problem. We may not be suffering that much now, but do we want are children or our grandchildren to suffer later?
Many scientists believe that the increase in temperature is caused by humans. The greenhouse effect increases because of the burning of fossil fuels such as natural gases, oil, and coal. “The greenhouse gases include the gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, or water vapor that contribute to the warming of the atmosphere of the Earth by reflecting radiation from the surface of the Earth” (Roleff).

These cause more heat to be trapped in the atmosphere than needed. Carbon dioxide is the most important gas that humans have affected. “It has increased by nearly 30% since 1700 because of human’s destructive behavior” (Roleff). The amount of fossil fuels we burn each year has increased dramatically. Between 1850 and 1950 60 million tons of fossil fuels were burned. Now the world burns at least five billion tons of fossil fuels each year. This means that we are adding between “15 and 20 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every 12 months” (Firor). This is causing a steady increase of carbon dioxide into our air.
Another way humans increase the amount of carbon dioxide is by deforestation. Huge numbers of trees are cut down each year to clear land for farming and building. The rain forests are really needed because they absorb...
