1. The collaborative group assignment is intended to be one where the entire team contributes to writing the assignment. Whereas when it is an individual writing assignment there is only contribution from one person. The key ingredients of successful group work are leadership, planning, effective communication, equal division of labor, and equal sharing of responsibilities for results, as well as courtesy, thoughtfulness, and dependability. For group writing projects, planning is especially important because writers tend to write in solitude from established plans and directions. However, when writing alone planning may not play such a vital importance. When a group agrees on the nature and scope of the writing project and develops an agreed-to plan or outline, responsibilities are clear. When due dates are met, the work stays on schedule.
2. The revising stage is all about clarity and flow. Has the author included enough details so that her audience understands what she has written? Might she change the order of her sentences so that her ideas flow better? Does she need to take some stuff out? Reading it aloud keeps the focus away from punctuation and spelling, and on big changes you need to make before you edit. The difference between groups and individuals in this specific stage is within a group there are multiple people reviewing in order to catch errors. However, with an individual they may not catch as much on their own.
3. When offering opinions concerning editing group writing assignments everyone must agree to be open to constructive criticism. When an individual is editing alone they do not have to accept outside opinions regarding their work.
4. Team conflicts should be handled in the following ways listed: accurately define problem, focus on the problem not personalities, respect interests of all team members, limit conflicts and address everyone’s concerns, and seek a solution agreeable to everyone (Sjoerdsma &...
