Moral America: How Religion Plays a Role
Religion. It’s something in America that has been catching a lot of flack lately from the media. While a lot of people approach it with modernistic views, there is still value left in religion as we know it. Whether or not one believes that there is a higher being does not mean that the basic moral principals of a religion such as Christianity are not sound. Having religion involved in a society isn’t as bad as what the media makes it out to be. Actions like stealing, murder, rape, or promiscuity are something that most would agree are not accepted as the best way of living. The amount of effort people will go through to make sure that religion is completely removed from any sort of public venue is ridiculous. Coming from a country that was originally built on morals (that were based on religion) it is unbelievable the amount of negative attitude there is toward religion. Religion and the morals that it is built are still a good structure for how to live a fulfilling life. If people were less promiscuous an effect of that might be there would be less STD’s. Also there would be less unwanted pregnancies and the anxiety that comes along with decisions about abortion or having a child at a young age. Life could be better all around if a set of guidelines that were laid out were actually followed by the masses, instead of rejected. Morals taken to heart could have a profound effect on the day to day lives of the American citizen.
The "Separation of Church and State" metaphor blurs the distinction between a doctrinal religion and a denominational religion. The lack of this distinction automatically assigns the potential evil of the denominational religion to the doctrinal religion as explained below.
