“Global warming is defined as the warming of the Earth by greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere naturally or by mankind.” (epa.gov) Many people believe that global warming is occurring because of the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from human activity. On the other hand there are many that believe that the climate change is just a natural occurrence, that global warming is not happening. I believe that global warming is occurring. There are ways of possibly preventing global warming that will be effective in reducing the world’s risk of this event.
Carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere everyday, by plants, burning fossil fuels, and the ocean. It’s a greenhouse gas that along with water vapor absorbs heat in the atmosphere. As long as carbon dioxide levels keep increasing, the Earth’s average temperature will increase and although warmer weather may seem nice, especially when it’s cold out, warmer temperatures on Earth will lead to many problems for all organisms living here. In the past century, Earth’s surface temperature has increased from 0.45 to 0.6 degrees Celsius, given that fact, and even though it may seem like a small number, scientists believe that within the next century the Earth’s average temperature will have increased by 1 degree Celsius. That right there is a big problem. Humans need to do everything they can to stop global warming from happening, and there are many things they can do.
Decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere will be a big factor in preventing global warming. Human activities such as burning fossil fuels are a main component as to why there are so much of those greenhouse gases in the atmosphere today. Greenhouse gases stay in the atmosphere for decades so the more they are released into the atmosphere the more will stay there and keep warming the Earth. A warmer Earth poses many problems for it’s occupants. Sea levels...
