Nowadays, with the development of technology and the mobility of people, the large companies in the world become more and more multicultural. "A combination of work force demographic trends and increasing globalization of business has placed the management of cultural differences on the agenda of most corporate leaders," wrote (Taylor Cox Jr 1991). “Organizations' work forces will be increasingly heterogeneous on dimensions such as gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. most of today's business owners and corporate executives recognize that paying attention to the challenges and opportunities associated with the growing trend toward culturally diverse work forces can be a key factor in overall business success.”(http1).This essay will discuss why it is so important to have a great understanding of cultural diversity, discuss the key factors   of the importance which are social background, gender and religion and also discuss how to get great understanding of cultural diversity.

Many people have defined the cultural diversity. Culture which   defined in Kroeber and Kluckhohn's book:Culture: A Critical Review of Concepts and Definitions, is the "patterned ways of thinking, feeling, and reacting, acquired and transmitted mainly by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievements of human groups, including their embodiments in artifacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional (i.e., historically derived and selected) ideas and especially their attached values" (Kroeber and Kluckhohn, 1952). In international management research, Hofstede defined culture as "…the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from those of another" (Hofstede, 1991)in his book.
