Morality is ultimately the ideal goal in every situation or outcome. Truth and fairness need to be executed in all situations in order to help find morality. One must think the right way in order to help come up with the correct answer. Authors such as Hume and Descartes stress the importance of morality. They say it is the end all of all inquiries to lead a happy and productive life. Kant does stress the importance of reality, but he takes it one step further and integrates the idea of morality in relationships. Earlier philosophers weren’t able to think of including morality on how to create a productive relationship. It would have been harder to have imagined because a feuding husband and wife, father and son, or two best friends weren’t as common in the earlier centuries. Within relationships Kant sets a better guideline on how to address relational issues with his categorical imperative. The categorical imperative suggests different ways on how to positively treat others; his laws are the very beginning of the golden rule itself.
There is a lot of confusing, grey area in the word morality. What Kant tries to do is show you how to be moral in one aspect of life, and that is in relationships. The categorical imperative can be studied and interrupted three different ways. Kant first makes note of the categorical imperative when he says “In fact there is absolutely no possibility by means of experience to make out with complete certainty a single case in which the maxim of an action that may in other respects conform to duty has rested solely on moral grounds and on the representation of one’s duty,” (Kant 19). He talks about respect for the law, but more importantly respect for one’s duty. Presently, that can be translated into take pride in your job and what you are supposed to do.
