Effects of Child Adoption by Gay Couples

If a gay couple wants to adopt a child, they should be able to. However, they will have a lot of explaining to do. Most think that gay parenting will result in more open minded children. They will be subjected to more than most children and they will most likely get along with everyone. The biggest effect gay parenting can have on a child is open-mindedness; causing them to be more accepting of others.
A gay couple awaits an adoption ruling from the United States court in Seattle. Ed Swaya and Gregory Hampel are hopeful that they will win their case in adopting a child. They have gone through several motions to get their child and each attempt they have made has been denied by their state. Gay couples should not have to go through any more motions in trying to adopt a child than straight couples do. It’s just not fair. Who is the court to say that gay parenting can’t have positive effects on children? They are just as capable of raising normal healthy children as straight couples are. Children with gay parents might even turn out to be better people than children with straight parents. A child raised by gay parents will certainly be better-rounded; for they have been subjected to more than children raised by straight parents.

An American Academy of Pediatrics journalist stated that “…children of gay and lesbian parents function just as well emotionally, cognitively, and socially as children of heterosexual parents…” If this is true, then what is the problem? What reasoning does the court have of not allowing child adoption by gay parents? If the concern really is about the child’s development, then the problem is solved. As long as the homosexual parents ensure a healthy domestic environment, the child will be fine. It will be similar to those children who are being raised by heterosexuals.
Of course gay parenting could have some negative effects on children....
