I worked for RadioShack as a Sales Associate for almost five years. Over those years, I learned a lot about how valuable information systems are. I don’t currently work there but I am familiar with their system. RadioShack has over 6,000 company-operated or franchise stores. They are one of America’s largest retailers. They pride themselves on their level of customer support, which is excellent. In order to provide optimum customer satisfaction, they have to provide a level of support that surpasses competitors. RS has put implemented several changes over the years that have put them in the forefront of customer satisfaction. Most of these changes occurred within their information system. Radioshack has two systems they use to help with their business transactions. The RSPOS system and the internet (e-commerce).
Every Radioshack has a point-of-sale (POS) system. This usually consists of a CPU, monitor, mouse, printer, scanner, and receipt printer. The POS system is where all the magic happens. This is where you would process any transaction. Their POS system allows you to record any transaction. It provides the current inventory of your store and inventory that is coming. If you want to know if the store in the next district would have a particular item, they would be able to tell you by looking on the POS system. The POS has an auto replenishment feature which detects when a product’s model quantity is getting low and will automatically send an order to the warehouse. If a customer wants their transaction saved, all they have to do is give the associate their information and the associate will enter it in when processing the transaction. Therefore, you have a history to look up. If they don’t give their personal information then RS has another way to look up transactions, by receipt number.
