The Presidential Campaign of 2008 was of incredible historical significance. The United States of America, being in a state of economic depression, needed leadership they could trust. The war in Iraq created so many debts that the country had turned to recession. There was incredibly heated controversy over the Bush Administration's last eight years in office. Politics was causing dramatic scenes right and left, with disputes over same-sex marriage, abortion, and global warming. Technological advances provided everyday Americans with thorough, up-to-date news on the net, booming our awareness and involvement. The American public showed a significant growth in voter registration since 2004. Other novelties of the 2008 election included Senator Barack Obama, who would be the first African American president. Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin could have been the first female president and vice president, respectively. There are countless reasons as to why the 2008 Presidential Campaign was unlike any other in history.
The 2008 Presidential Election had much at stake, and the American public was looking for a leader. We wanted someone who could lift us from the turmoil of financial crisis. We wanted someone who could stop recession. We wanted someone who could end the war peacefully and bring our troops home safely. We wanted someone who could find a middle-path in our personal legal struggles and adequately serve both sides. We wanted someone who could create a solution to our energy crisis and stop global warming. Conclusively, Americans were looking for a hero.
When Barack Obama became the President-Elect of the United States of America, I think we did receive a hero, but not the kind we thought we needed.
