New Zealand is unique as a tourism destination from both a culture and environmental perspective.

New Zealand is one of the few countries that still embrace their indigenous culture and still use it as part of their day to day lives. And also is trying to keep that culture alive through tourism. Many people only know New Zealand from the Maori culture and that when they come to New Zealand all they would see is people running around in grass skirts. And then there’s people that actually think and take time to research what goes on here and can see that we are a multi cultural country that holds its culture in very high esteem and is trying hard to keep it alive unlike many other countries that have flicked their national culture to the side. We have many places in this country that are very culture orientated and strive to keep these places and tourism helps with the maintenance of these places so they will be here in the years to come.
From an environmental prospective New Zealand has so much to offer and many people come to this country for our great environment. For example in Rotorua there are the natural thermal and mud pools, the only other place in New Zealand that has these hot pools is Hamner Springs in the south island. Rotorua is well known for these hot water and mud pools and many people both international and local come to them. And as a cultural destination Rotorua is also a very Maori orientated place for example there’s a part of Tongariro National park which the Maori tribe of the area has full rights to and that DOC can not touch so it runs wild but it is officially owned by the local tribe. So this is a very big thing for New Zealand or any country to have given their indigenous people.
Although we have a very pristine environment it is beginning to fail and will keep in this decline if more isn’t done to it, but that is why we have the government department DOC. DOC deals with all the things to do with our...
