Super strength, perfect hearing, eyesight, memory and etc, all these abilities are only able to see in cartoons or movies. However, if these abilities or enhancements are actually available in our real life, this could be devastated to many people and at the same time it could be a remarkable evolution to human beings. There are numerous aspects that we should look into before we actually decide rather this enhancement should be allowed or not. Famous writer David Plotz takes a position against enhancement and gave us few examples such as safety, cheating, evolution, equality. Starting with safety, he claims that enhancement should be limited to protect individuals from harming themselves or others. Example of this could be one or more individuals using their enhancement toward negative matter. Secondly, he points out enhancement are wrong since they are a form of cheating, gaining an undeserved benefit. This could lead to unfair life such as cheating on tournaments or exams by gaining the enhancement. Also, Plotz explains evolution may alter human in ways we cannot predict or control. Genetic enhancement may be a wonderful future prospect, but we shouldn't play with it casually. We may create genes that we can't control, engineer children who don't come out the way we expect. Lastly, enhancement will create and increase social and economic inequality, for example, the rich will be enhanced first. Only with cash to burn will be able to afford fiendishly complicated new gene transfer technologies. Enhancement will make extra distance between the rich and the poor. There are already all kinds of unfair advantages from the DNA of offspring. Therefore with all these reasons and risks we have to consider, I stand on the side with Plotz, against the enhancement. I do not think enhancements are necessary for living a good or decent life.
